ECO@Metta
2022-2026

Dews of Joy-Metta’s “ECO@Metta” project, initiated by Metta Welfare Association in 2019, aims to enhance the employability of young adults with special needs, such as those diagnosed with mild intellectual disability or autism. By employing job coaches and Metta graduates, the project produces eco-friendly orange enzyme cleaners, which are distributed free to the community and sold online. Additionally, the project collaborates with partners and corporations in their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with Metta’s youths leading the process of teaching corporate employees how to create these cleaners. This initiative not only provides vocational training and lifelong learning opportunities but also fosters inclusivity and empowers youths with special needs to achieve meaningful employment and contribute positively to society.
Progress to Date

2024-2026
ECO@Metta continues to support special needs youths, through vocational training, life skills development and meaningful community participation. The programme has supported 11 trainees, exceeding its original target of 8, while strengthening manpower support to meet the growing intensity of activities and the increasingly diverse needs of participating youths.
ECO@Metta combines environmental sustainability with social impact by transforming discarded and repurposed materials into useful upcycled products. These include all-natural orange enzyme cleaners made from fermented orange peels, upcycled plants in thermal containers and glass jars, handcrafted soaps, and tote bags made from repurposed textiles and linens. Through these activities, trainees are able to practise work routines, build confidence, develop practical skills and contribute to a circular economy model that reduces waste.
Beyond product-making, the programme has expanded its learning modules to better prepare trainees for independent participation in everyday life. Training areas include cashless payments, QR transactions, PayNow navigation, cyber safety and scam awareness. Practical sessions are conducted in real-life settings such as cafés, supermarkets and community spaces, helping trainees apply their learning in familiar community environments.
The programme has also introduced structured wellness and confidence-building activities, including weekly Tai Ji sessions and Taiji Dragon Performance training. These activities support motor coordination, focus, emotional regulation, teamwork and self-esteem. Trainers have observed increased motivation and pride among trainees as they prepare to participate in external showcases and community-facing activities.
Through its integrated approach to vocational training, digital literacy, wellness and sustainability, ECO@Metta continues to create meaningful opportunities for youths with special needs to build independence, confidence and social connection. The programme demonstrates how environmental responsibility and inclusive training can work together to support both people and the planet.
