Care Corner
In the economic downturn in the region in the 80s, the rift between the wealthy and the lower-income, particularly the Chinese blue-collar workers widened. In response to seeing them live on a low income with few opportunities for a formal education, our founders held on to a strong belief of empowering them to realize their potential and become more competent and fulfilled people. It was with this hope that Care Corner Singapore Ltd was founded in 1981.
Over the years, Care Corner has evolved into a leading social service agency. With 43 service points across Singapore, we serve children with special learning needs or from disadvantaged backgrounds, youth-at-risk, troubled families, vulnerable seniors and individuals with counselling and mental health needs. At Care Corner, we continuously strive to develop new innovative programmes to support the needs of our community, such as the HEADS-UPP Programme.
HEADS-UPP
HEADS-UPP is a 1-year community-based paediatric programme that provides health and developmental screenings and support, together with Care Corner social workers, health team from National University Hospital and the preschools. To support low-income children and their families with their health and development in a holistic manner.

Healthy foods, for their good
Coupled with the family’s income level, families tend to only be able to provide food that will satisfy their hunger, but not necessarily meeting the recommended nutritional requirements. As nutrition is one of the determinants for children to develop healthily. Dews of Joy to partner with Care Corner in “Healthy foods, for their good” aims to improve the nutrition of children from low-income families by providing essential food items not typically included in food ration distributions, supporting their health and development over a 2-year period.
Doctors and nurses from NUH provided a list of healthy foods.
Based on the Health Assessment Questionnaire, doctors will prescribe the types of food to be given to each family.
In consultation with the family, the food items will be refined based on partiality and preferences.
Families will receive vouchers to purchase the recommended groceries between the 1-3 month and 4–6 month mark in the programme.
