PROJECT BREAKTHROUGH
2021-2024

As Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) live longer, many will eventually outlive their caregivers, raising concerns about how they will live independently. Additionally, negative attitudes from society and employers make it difficult for PWDs to integrate into the workforce. Upon completing their education, PWDs also face limited career and employment opportunities, making it difficult to pursue careers aligned with their dreams and aspirations.
Dews of Joy and Grace Orchard School’s “Project Breakthrough,” launched in 2021 as a pilot project with industry partners, aims to set up a school-based training facility. This facility provides authentic work experience in a safe and familiar environment, ensuring better preparation and a smoother transition for young adults with disabilities to external worksites, which will eventually be self-sustaining. The initiative engages full-time job coaches to provide enhanced support, focusing on helping these young adults secure aspirational and sustainable employment.
